Rain Gardens!
We are big fans of rain gardens to capture more water from your roof - encouraging it to gently soak in and replenish the soil. You can create a chain of rain-collecting mini ponds that wind through your planting areas - everyone will run outside when it rains as they are a delight to watch as they fill up. The birds will love it too! Perennials and shrubs are tucked in around the edges of the swales - using varieties that don't mind having temporarily wet feet. A thick layer of bark mulch stops evaporation and avoids having muddy areas. After a couple of years, you will have a noticeably lusher garden.
